Keep Your Current Health Plan Extended

The "keep your current health insurance plan" promise by President Obama is being extended even further. The Obama administration announced that Americans can keep their health plans that are non-compliant with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) with renewals as late as Oct. 1, 2016, so individuals and small businesses could have noncompliant coverage well into 2017. Some see this move as an over-reach of executive authority and politically motivated in advance of congressional midterm elections.

The decision will have no impact on Washington state residents because their Department of Insurance rejected the delay in their state for ACA compliance of medical insurance policies.  Idaho allowed each insurance company the latitude to keep offering renewals of non-compliant plans. At this time the two largest insurers in Idaho - Blue Cross of Idaho and Regence BlueShield of Idaho have elected to offer renewal policies of existing plans.
