YEAR-TO-DATE US WILDFIRE STATS

US wildfires have burned more than 6,429,540 acres, +30.58% higher than the 10-year average of 4,923,933 acres, year-to-date, as of August 29, 2024, according to National Interagency Fire Center.  However, the 10-year average number of wildfires is down from 41,206 to 33,320.

Late summer and fall are characterized by extremely dry fuels in many parts of the country, and multiple geographic areas continue to fight fires that threaten homes and present major challenges to containment. Even if temperatures are coming down in your area, maintain heightened awareness of any possible sources of ignition. Ensure your vehicle is in good working order and secure any chains or anything that could drag and spark.
