Emergency care

If you're experiencing life-threatening symptoms, such as chest pain, shortness of breath or uncontrolled bleeding, go to the ER. Doctors there are specially trained to treat critical health needs. Or in general, the Emergency Department is the best place for treating any injuries that are a threat to life or limb or vision, or these general issues:

  • Chest pain (especially if it radiates to your arm or jaw or is accompanied by sweating, vomiting or shortness of breath)
  • Blurred vision, sudden dizziness, weakness or loss of coordination or balance, sudden severe headache
  • Broken bones or dislocated joints
  • Head or eye injuries
  • High fever with rash (or fever in a newborn)
  • Seizures
  • Severe abdominal pain
  • Uncontrolled bleeding
  • Or any other relative condition depending on someone's specific past or ongoing health needs.
