Although your Personal Auto Policy (PAP) can extend all the basic coverages to your rental car - auto liability, uninsured/underinsured motorist, medical payments, and physical damage coverage (if at least one vehicle insured in your PAP is insured for collision) – you still may want to obtain the “walk away” convenience of Collision Damage Waiver (CDW), sometimes called Loss Damage Waiver (LDW).
One limited exception is
Safeco Insurance Co. that has negotiated a special arrangement with Enterprise Rental Cars. If you have a Safeco PAP and rent a vehicle from Enterprise they state in their rental contract:
"Each Enterprise Entity agrees not to pursue any Safeco insured or Safeco for a claim for diminishment in value damages or administrative fees for or with respect to physical damage to an Enterprise Vehicle while such Enterprise Vehicle is rented to a Safeco insured."
For other companies you may be looking for less expensive alternatives to the CDW offered by the rental car company. Some credit card companies offer competing programs to provide CDW and other benefits if you use their card to book and pay for your rental car.
